Learn how to integrate multimedia into your classroom with Discovery Education (DE) streaming including Board Builder, a unique tool that allows your students to digitize book reports, science projects and more. The DEN Star presenters will spend the morning on how to best utilize the resources of DE streaming in your classroom. During the afternoon attendees will learn how students can curate, create and synthesize content using Board Builder. The group will then go head to head on who has created the most DENmazing Board! BYOL: Laptop or tablet with browser and wifi capability. Discovery Education account setup.

Deeper Learning Through Design Thinking

Design Thinking is a set of tools that unlocks deeper learning for our students. Join us for this interactive session that will explore the five phases of design thinking and how you can use it in your classroom to maximize engagement and connect kids to their learning. Online tools that provide templates, resources and materials will be used. Participants will receive resources, ideas and an opportunity to participate in a design thinking challenge. BYOL: Laptop with browser and wifi capability.

We hear about engaged learning and deeper thinking, but what do they look like? BYOD as we’ll work through the similar components of Project/Problem/Inquiry Based Learning and the engineering process that meets Technology and Common Core State Standards. You’ll work through a sample lesson modeling deeper thinking and learn how to apply these strategies to your classroom. BYOD: Laptop or tablet with internet access.

Using and Creating Infographics in the Classroom

Infographics are sets of information visually represented in a way that allows the audience to better understand how information is connected. They can even make charts and graphs fun for your students!  Participants will create their own infographics using free or inexpensive platform agnostic programs and be able to add infographics into their classrooms successfully.  Several lesson plan ideas will be given along with a project that all teachers can do to help students understand how to create an infographic and visually represent data more effectively. BYOL: Laptop with browser and wifi capability.

Writing Outside of the Box: Tech Tools for Any Classroom

Numerous new and innovative technology tools can help students and teachers navigate their way through the stages of the writing process, helping to integrate writing into all content areas. This workshop will guide participants through the writing process, experimenting with digital tools for each step. Apps that can be used with multiple platforms will be shared as well as ideas for how each might apply to multiple content areas. BYOD: Tablet (Apple or Android) or laptop.

Come to the Apple Learning Tour to see how Apple’s mobile devices and content rich ecosystem make learning more relevant and more personal. MacBooks and iPads will be provided.

In this workshop, we will dive into the world of web apps that give students the ability to create, not just consume. Do you have your sites set on making your own free website? With Google Sites you can display videos, calendars, presentations and more all in one place. You choose who can view and even edit your site. Please storyboard your pages before coming to this workshop and we will walk through setting up your own website and maintaining it too!
